a french flair for the weekend:part I

January 16, 2011

1900s Paris meets 2011 Athens. Treasures from the Petit Palais have traveled from Paris wafting the essence of Art Nouveau over Athens.  Highly recommended, at the National Gallery until 28/2.

The portrait of Sarah Bernhardt, by Georges Jules Victor CLAIRIN is the  center and most astonishing piece of the exhibition. She was a French stage and early film actress that made her fame on the stages in the 1870s and was very famous in Europe and the Americas. She developed a reputation as a serious dramatic actress, earning the nickname “The Divine Sarah”

The exhibition attracted high-end visitors

et des très elegantes mademoiselles

…estampes & affiches
…et une vraie Parisienne
there was a room dedicated to ” interieurs modernes”
Mais, mademoiselleasseyez vous!

…and our favorite painting (c’est nous environs 1900)…”Velo à Vesinet” by Leon-Francois COMERRE.
